Mahogany! The things you didn’t know about it.

Mahogany is a richly coloured timber, among the more valuable wood species in the world.

It is known for its unique pink colouring, which darkens over time into a deep reddish-brown as the wood ages.

It has very few knots or voids hence it has a smooth, even grain pattern, which makes it ideal for fine furnishings and wood craft. It is relatively easy to work with. It is incredibly strong and durable, allowing craftsmen to create long-lasting products.

The tree’s girth allows for wide boards that make it favorable for crafting cabinets and furniture.

Compared to other materials, mahogany is easy to sand, and cut cleanly and gives a smooth fine finish.

In door production usually, it is stained to produce various colours on doors hence a popular myth that mahogany is dark red. However, originally mahogany colour is variable, ranging from a very pale pink to a deeper reddish brown (not absolute RED).

In Uganda, you will find mahogany being used to make all types of wood products from doors, door frame, cabinets, wardrobes, tables, chairs and so on.
